The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MSP) issued a notice to the trucking industry this week after several drivers attempted to avoid I-20 construction by taking a highway with a low height clearance and low weight bridge.

On April 1, MSP issued a traffic alert pertaining to the trucking community due to construction on I-20 leading some drivers to detour to US 80 and a low weight limit bridge located along the highway.

From MSP Troop C Enforcement Division:

Due to road construction on I-20, eastbound and westbound traffic between the 15 and 18-mile markers is affected. As a result, 18-wheelers are detouring onto US-80 near Bovina (11-mile marker) and Edwards (19-mile marker). We kindly ask commercial vehicles to remain on the I-20. Please note that the bridge on US-80 can only support 15,000 pounds and has a height limit of 12 feet. The Mississippi Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division (CTED), Warren County Code Enforcement, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol will be on-site to enforce compliance with these regulations.
