A trucker was treated to a serious surprise when he purchased a pair of scratchers lottery tickets at a Virginia truck stop.

Wisconsin-based truck driver Patrick Golz stopped in at a Love’s Travel Stop in Lambsburg, Virginia, just off I-77, as he was traveling on his regular route, according to a news release from the Virginia Lottery.

While at the Love’s, Golz purchased two $1,000,000 Gold Rush tickets.

The second of the two tickets he scratched turned out to be a winner of the game’s $1 million top prize.

Rather than taking a lump sump of $500,000 before taxes, Golz opted for the full $1 million prize in annual payments over a 30 year period.

The Love’s is also awarded a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Golz says that he plans to invest his truck stop lottery winnings.
