A semi truck hauling lumber overturned on his first trip down a winding mountain road in Northern California on Tuesday.

The accident happened at about 6:10 p.m. on April 22nd on State Road 70 near the Pulga bridge in Pulga, California.

According to BCFAC News, the driver was hauling lumber on his first trip down the road when he overturned, spilling the load of lumber across the roadway. The truck came to a stop upside down. The unnamed truck driver was not hurt.

A local passing through the area was able to report the crash and call 911 using Starlink satellite connection, as no other cell phone or internet service was available in the area. By 7:14 p.m. Caltrans ordered a full closure of SR 70 from Butte County through Caltrans station 97 to allow for the clearing of the wreck. Traffic was also stopped at the Greenville Wye to prevent more traffic in the closed area.

Witnesses at the scene described skid marks leading up to the crash site, and the truck driver stated that it was his first trip down SR 70. The crash site is along a two-lane highway winding along steep cliffs bordering the Feather River.

Heavy wrecker services were aided by a loader from a nearby maintenance yard as they worked to clear the accident. The roadway was closed for cleanup into the evening.
