Firefighters and a crash witness teamed up to bring a trucker’s pup back to his family after a serious crash in Fulton County, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday night.
The crash occurred shortly before midnight on April 29 on Route 30 at Scrub Ridge.
The McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Company (MVFC) told ABC27 that a tractor trailer crashed due to brake failure, causing the truck to roll off the road into a ditch.
The driver of the truck was able to self-extricate from the severely damaged vehicle but suffered significant injuries in the crash.
A witness to the crash, Meredith Elvey, reportedly alerted firefighters to a French Bulldog still trapped in the wrecked semi, and crews were able to rescue the dog, named Chloe.
“Last night on our way home from work roughly around 11:40pm we witnessed the worst trucking accident I’ve seen on Scrub Bridge. The driver lost his brakes and ended up in a ditch. The driver had his dog with him, a little French Bulldog named Chloe. He wasn’t able to take his dog with him when they left the scene so B and I offered to take care of her until we can figure out how to get them back to each other! God is truly amazing. The state that the truck was in shows that God had his protecting hands on this man and his dog. Chloe came out of the accident with not a single scratch and the driver is stable,” Elvey said in a social media post.

According to MVFC Chief Pete Lynch, Elvey agreed to take the dog home with her overnight while the trucker was transported to the hospital, and then coordinated with the driver and his family to return Chloe to them at a hospital in Hershey.
“Follow-up From the Tractor Trailer Crash on Scrub Ridge .. if not for this Young Lady telling us .. there’s a dog still in the cab .. and how it survived?? After getting her up to the Road .. now what are we gonna do .. the driver was seriously injured .. and luckily had his cell phone .. a phone call was made to a relative in Florida!!! Meredith agreed to take to take “Chloe” home with her ..We’re happy to pass along these pictures .. were taken as Meredith has returned the pup to the owner and relatives at Hershey Med Center where he’s recovering from his injuries,” Lynch said.
