A truck driver turned himself in and paid in full after stealing back his own towed semi truck from an impound lot in Connecticut.
The incident occurred at Bud’s Truck & Diesel Service Inc. on Island Brook Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Wednesday, April 30th.
According to NewsTimes, police were contacted after an employee at the impound lot saw a man breaking into their fenced-in lot to steal a 2006 Freightliner tractor trailer without paying $830 in tow fees. As officers were investigating at the lot, they were advised that the man in question had brought himself to the station and confessed that he had stolen back the semi truck.
The 33-year-old truck driver confessed to police that he had tracked his own towed semi truck through an Apple AirTag while he “was unable to think rationally,” which led him to steal the rig back. After confessing to police, the man returned to the tow lot to pay the $830 fee.
Details regarding how exactly the truck driver got the towed semi truck out of the impound lot are not clear. The rig was initially impounded by police. The reason for the tow has not been released.
The truck driver has been charged with fifth degree larceny and has been issued a summons for a May 14th court date.
