The Thomasville Police Chief says that two team drivers on work visas are “going to pay” for a deadly, dramatic crash into a line of cars stopped at a red light in Alabama earlier this week.

45-year-old Andrii Dmyterko is facing manslaughter charges for a Tuesday, May 6th crash on southbound Highway 43 at the South Industrial Park Drive intersection in Thomasville, Alabama. The crash happened when Dmyterko drove straight through a line of cars stopped at a red light, with no sign of hitting the brakes.

Two people were killed and four more were injured. Dmyterko was seen walking around after the accident, and was medically cleared during a checkup afterwards. 31-year-old Denys Kucher was also inside of the semi truck at the time of the wreck. “Both men are currently in the U.S. on work Visas,” according to a press release from police.

According to WKRG 5, The FBI has joined the investigation of the accident because Dmyterko is in the United States from Russia on a work visa, and required a translator to effectively speak to police.

“They’re going to pay,” Thomasville Police Chief Mitchell Stuckey said. “We can’t make the loved ones lost yesterday come back, but we certainly make the one responsible pay… All they did was stop at a red light … it could’ve happened to anybody.”

“I have been a fireman for over 40 years,” said Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day. “This is one of the worst accidents we have ever worked in the City limits during my career. Each of our first responders need your prayers. They are on the front line and did a tremendously professional job today….however, during that process we all see things you cannot unsee. This accident will forever be etched in their minds.”

“Common sense tells you something had to have happened medically or otherwise to cause this driver to go through this intersection,” Day continued. “Knowing two people lost their lives and other people got injured, the devastation it caused in this area … we need to get to the bottom of this, and our investigative team is going to leave no stone unturned.”

Dmyterko is currently being held in the Clarke County Jail on two counts of Vehicular Manslaughter.
