A truck convoy that claims to be “one of the largest truck convoys in the entire country” raises enough funds to grant the wishes of many sick children year after year as part of the Make-A-Wish program.

The annual Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Truck Convoy was held on May 11th this year in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The convoy has been raising money for Make-A-Wish kids for 36 years.

“It’s one of the largest truck convoys in the entire country,” said Lori Dietrich, the Development Director of Lancaster Make-A-wish, to ABC 27.

“And the fact that it’s been going on for 36 years, we have some drivers that have been taking part for decades and we have drivers that raise money all year long. So, we grant the wishes of the critically ill children in the community.”

Dietrich says that many of the participating truck drivers gather donations all year long, which is why they are able to help so many children.

“So, because of the generosity of last year’s convoy, we were able to grant 74 wishes,” Dietrich added. “We have 65 wish kids currently waiting for a wish in Susquehanna Valley. And those wishes range from trips, to puppies and makeovers of bedrooms so the wishes are always very creative.”

The convoy also includes a 26 mile ride alongside a truck driver for some of the kids.

“It’s so overwhelming,” said one of the Make-A-Wish children who participated in the event. “It’s so nice to see that, like we’re not in it alone, right? I mean, every wish kid that’s out there, every wish family that’s out there, we’re not in it alone.”
