State police are partnering for an enhanced traffic enforcement detail targeting drivers who fail to move over for emergency vehicles.
The traffic detail is taking place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14.
Participating law enforcement agencies include the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Louisiana State Police, New Mexico State Police, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
During the single day operation, troopers will increase patrols to enforce their state’s move over laws, ASP said.
In Arkansas, drivers are required by law to move over for emergency vehicles, Arkansas Department of Transportation vehicles, utility vehicles, tow trucks, and other authorized vehicles displaying flashing, revolving, or rotating lights in blue, red, amber, white, or green.
If it isn’t possible to move over, drivers should exercise caution and reduce their speed according to the conditions of the street, road, or highway where the authorized vehicle is stopped or parked.
Drivers who violate Arkansas move over laws face fines ranging from $250 to $1,000, possible jail time, and the potential loss of their driver’s license.
