A semi truck thief dumped a bobtail rig into the river before attempting to flee on foot in a “final reckless maneuver” while evading police.
The incident occurred at around 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14th in the area of 24 Avenue and 206 Street in Langley, British Columbia, Canada.
According to CBC News, the bobtail semi truck was first spotted at 7:35 p.m. with mismatched license plates, but officers did not attempt to stop the vehicle until about midnight. During the initial stop attempt, the driver in the semi truck tried to ram the police vehicles before driving away from the scene. The semi truck was able to hit one police vehicle.

Officers then managed to deflate one of the truck’s front tires with a spike strip, but the semi truck thief kept driving at a high rate of speed. Officers then began the pursuit “to stop the threat” to the public, and chased the semi truck through several neighborhoods.
A second spike strip was deployed, destroying the semi truck’s back tires, but the semi truck thief continued to drive the rig “dangerously at high speeds” through red lights as he swerved around other vehicles.
The semi truck thief then drove to a public dock area where he took the semi truck down and embankment and dumped it in the Fraser River in a “final reckless manuever.” The semi truck thief then fled the submerged semi truck, but was quickly arrested nearby.
The suspect is now in custody as the incident is investigated.
