A truck driver is accused of speeding under the influence following a California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic enforcement operation in Sacramento.
According to CHP’s South Sacramento division, a speed enforcement detail took place on May 22 on northbound SR-99 at Elk Grove Boulevard.
A CHP trooper parked on the right shoulder of the roadway spotted a tractor trailer traveling in the #1 lane of traffic “at a high rate of speed.”
The truck was reportedly locked in at 74 m.p.h. on LIDAR.
The trooper conducted a traffic stop, during which “the driver exhibited objective signs of being under the influence.”
A Preliminary Alcohol Screening (P.A.S.) test showed blood alcohol content (BAC) result of 0.15%. A subsequent chemical breath test showed a 0.14% BAC.
“Commercial drivers are held to a stricter standard and must maintain a BAC of 0.04% or less. Driving under the influence—especially in a commercial vehicle—puts lives at serious risk. CHP South Sacramento reminds all drivers: Drive sober. Drive safe. Everyone deserves to get home,” state police said.
