The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a major two-vehicle collision caused by a reportedly reckless motorist in Fresno over the weekend.

The crash took place on the evening of Saturday, May 31, in Fresno, California.

Troopers say that a semi truck was stopped on the southbound shoulder of Highway 99 near Fresno Street due to a mechanical issue.

As the truck was parked, CHP said that “a reported reckless Ford Taurus, driving on the shoulder crashed into the rear of the trailer at high speed.”

The Taurus was severely damaged in the crash. The driver was unrestrained and suffered major injuries.

“Our hearts go out to the injured driver but it also serves as a reminder how excessive speed and reckless behavior can lead to devastating consequences. Drive responsible and always wear your seatbelt,” said CHP’s Fresno division.
