The Wyoming Transportation Commission has awarded two emergency repair contracts to two different companies as the state works on reopening the Green River Tunnel.

The two emergency bids were awarded during a special meeting via Zoom on May 27th. The repairs stem from damage the tunnel sustained in February after a massive pile-up crash involving multiple semi trucks.

According to Wyoming News, Holophane was awarded a $1.03 million emergency contract for tunnel lighting equipment to replace damaged light fixtures. A second emergency contract was awarded to DeBernardi Construction for $753,550. That project includes concrete repair, removal of the current damaged lighting system, and media blasting of the tunnel lining in areas where no repair is required.

For the last few months, WYDOT crews and consultants have been working to asses the extent of the damage to the tunnels. WYDOT engineers are currently working on final plans for permanent repairs. The plans ar expected to be complete and open for bids by early July.

WYDOT is working to complete repairs in a timeframe that would allow for the reopening of the Green River Tunnel before the 2025/2026 winter season.
