As Colorado’s chain season officially ends, state troopers have released results from weekly chain enforcement efforts that took place along the I-70 mountain corridor.

Starting on February 27, 2025, and lasting through May 27, 2025, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and partner law enforcement agencies took part in 14 chain enforcement details along the I-70 mountain corridor.

See below for results from all of 14 weeks of chain enforcement:

  • Total passenger vehicle contacts – 852
  • Total passenger vehicle speeding citations – 450
  • Total passenger vehicle citations – 737
  • Total CMV contacts – 1,997
  • Total CMV chain must carry citations – 129
    • Total CMV citations- 194

The Colorado State Patrol also released the following citation information as part of the agency’s annual chain law season enforcement review.

Additional Enforcement and Port of Entry Inspections yielded the following citations from 9/1/24- 5/26/25:

  • CMV Blocking roadways – 122
  • Not Being Chained when Chain law in Effect – 374
  • Passenger Vehicles not adhering to Traction Law – 257

Agencies taking part in the chain enforcement operations include:

  • Colorado State Patrol
  • Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office
  • Idaho Springs Police Department
  • Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office
  • Lakewood Police Department
  • Parachute Police Department
  • Vail Police Department

Colorado’s chain law season runs from September 1 – May 31 each year.
