A semi truck lost its brakes on Interstate 70 in Colorado on Wednesday afternoon, sending a car crashing all the way through its trailer. 

The accident happened at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4th in Silverthorne, Colorado along Interstate 70. 

According to 9 News, a semi truck was heading west on I-70 when it lost its brakes a collided with another semi truck. The two semi trucks then crossed into the eastbound lanes where they rolled into more vehicles. One of the semi trucks struck a RAV4 and landed with its trailer on top of it. The car then went crashing all the way through the trailer and and came to a rest on the other side against the guardrail. 

The RAV 4 driver sustained minor injuries. The driver of the semi truck that was hit also sustained minor injuries in the crash, but a passenger in that semi truck sustained life threatening injuries. 

The truck driver who lost his brakes was cited for careless driving causing bodily injury. 

Cleanup of the crash lasted until very late on Wednesday night as crews worked to clean up a load of glass spilled in the wreck and 1,000 feet of damaged guardrail.
