Witnesses pulled a trucker from his submerged cab after a fiery crash off of a bride along Interstate 81 over the weekend.
The accident happened on June 7th, at about 4:30 p.m. on I-81 north near the 228 mile marker near Verona, Virginia.
According to Augusta County Fire-Rescue, the semi truck was heading north on I-81 when it overturned and slid, sending the cab of the truck skidding off of the interstate and into Middle River. The truck then caught fire.

Witnesses pulled the trucker from the submerged cab of his truck before first responders could arrive. Emergency personnel then airlifted the truck driver to a nearby hospital for care. Firefighters then worked to extinguish the flaming semi truck, and measures were taken to prevent diesel from flowing into the river. Crews then worked to clear the wreckage.
“Thank you to all units that responded as well as the many bystanders who put their safety at risk to help the driver,” wrote Augusta County Fire Rescue in a statement.
