A city official in Nashville, Tennessee, says she is looking for solutions after noting an uptick in truck parking along several streets.

An existing Metro Nashville ordinance prohibits the parking of trucks, trailers, and semi trailer on any street at any time of day, with exceptions for loading and unloading, but a local leader says that truckers are not abiding by this restriction in part due to the closure of a TA truck stop.

On June 9, Councilwoman Joy Styles issued a statement on tractor trailers parking on streets and shoulders in Nashville and promised constituents that she is working with transportation officials on a fix.

From Styles:

Tractor Trailer Parking Update:

We have all been annoyed with the seemingly overnight appearance of tractor trailer trucks along Old Hickory Boulevard, Murfreesboro Rd and Old Franklin Rd. I have been speaking with @nashvilledot over the last few months about what we can do. Without question, they are a pain. They are unsightly and impact visibility.

The update today is that the traffic engineering team is going to go out this week and assess the visibility issues and determine locations for some No Parking signs. With the signs, we should have some accountability with enforcement.

I believe that we have now discovered the reason for their arrival. The TA travel stop downtown closed last year and the trucks have no designated place to go. They are now parking where they can by interstate entrances for their breaks. I will post when I have the results of traffic enforcement’s findings. We definitely need a permanent fix…

TA’s downtown Nashville store shuttered in the spring of 2023. The location had 167 truck parking spaces.
