A combative patient was run over by a semi truck after fleeing an ambulance in Illinois early on Monday morning. 

The incident happened on June 9th, just before 3 a.m. on Interstate 70 in Bond County, Illinois. 

According to WCIA, the ambulance was transporting the man along I-70 when the man became combative. The ambulance pulled over to the shoulder, and the combative patient exited the vehicle. The man then ran into a lane of oncoming traffic and was promptly hit by a semi truck operating on the highway.

The man was then loaded back into an ambulance and transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries from the semi truck collision. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. 

The incident is still under investigation. No further information has been released.
