A truck driver is facing assault charges and more after evading police for three days following the alleged assault of a woman in Michigan earlier this week.

The incident started at about 5:45 a.m. on June 7th in the 5000 block of Argyle Street.

According to CBS News, police were called to the home on reports of domestic assault of a 42-year-old woman. 55-year-old truck driver Ali Ahmed Zbib promptly fled the scene and ran to a nearby parking lot, where he got into a semi truck. Officers then followed him and found him inside of the truck at the 14300 block of Michigan Avenue, but Zbib threw the truck in reverse, put it back into drive, struck a patrol car, and drove away before officers could engage with him.

Police pursued Zbib for a time, but eventually called off the chase due to Zbib’s “dangerous and erratic driving.” Police pursued Zbib on and off for the next 48 hours before he was finally arrested on June 9th after police spotted his semi truck in Detroit.

Zbib is facing assault charges of domestic violence, third degree fleeing and eluding, malicious destruction of police property. He is due in court for a probable cause conference on June 18th. Zbib’s relationship to the woman involved in the assault charges is not clear. Some reports describe her as an “ex,” while others named her as his wife. No further information has been released.
