The Memphis Police Department (MPD) is investigating a cargo theft and assault incident that occurred late last week.

MPD responded to a reported burglary incident at 7:46 a.m. on June 13 at 3399 Raines Road in Memphis, Tennessee.

Police say that that a semi truck driver was parked at the location waiting to drop off a load at a nearby business when a suspect in a black Nissan Altima with no tags drove up and parked near the back of the trailer.

The suspect exited the Nissan with a cutting grinder and removed the lock from the trailer.

A second suspect in a silver Infiniti G50 sedan with unknown tags exited his vehicle and acted as a lookout for the first suspect.

The first suspect went inside the trailer and removed several boxes with help from the second suspect.

As the two suspects were taking boxes from the trailer, a third suspect emerged from the Infiniti and acted as a lookout.

The truck driver became aware of the suspects taking boxes from the trailer and exited the cab to confront them.

“When the victim tried to stop the suspects from leaving with his property, the first suspect punched the victim in the face. Instead of the suspects leaving after the assault, they went back into the trailer and stole more boxes. The suspects did not leave until the victim returned to his truck and began to drive off,” MPD said in a news release.
