A police officer was sentenced to 45 days in jail and two years probation for tasing a trucker during a rainy traffic stop in Michigan nearly two years ago.
The incident happened on July 20th, 2023 in Center Line, Michigan. 51-year-old former Warren police officer, Dammeon Player, was sentenced on Monday, June 16th, 2025.
According to The Detriot News, both Player and a 30-year-old Carlos Taylor assaulted a truck driver by using a taser during a rainy traffic stop when he was slow to exit his truck cab. The incident happened in Center Line, which was legally out of the officers’ jurisdiction.
Player is expected to report to the Macomb County Jail on Friday, June 20th to serve his 45 days for assault with a dangerous weapon and misconduct in office. Charges against Taylor have been dismissed. Both officers were fired from their positions.
“When a police officer uses their authority to commit violence instead of preventing it, the damage goes far beyond the immediate victim,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement. “This sentence sends a clear message: no one is above the law, and those who abuse their power will be held accountable.”
The truck driver settled with the city for a $400,000 payment following the incident. Some footage of the incident can be viewed here.
