The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) shared a dash cam video of a motorist behaving badly around a semi truck as a reminder of the danger of driving recklessly around commercial vehicles.

On June 18, 2025, KHP Trooper Ben Gardner shared dash cam video sent to him by a trucking company featuring a car passing a truck on the shoulder of the roadway.

Trooper Gardner shared the video along with a message of support for the trucking community:

“This kind of driving can get someone killed. Some folks think it’s no big deal to fly up the shoulder and pass a semi. But that move is reckless, illegal, and flat-out dangerous. Most people don’t realize this, in crashes involving semis, it’s usually not the truck driver who caused it. Studies show cars are at fault 80 to 85 percent of the time. Semis are BIG. They don’t stop quick. Give them space. Be patient. Drive smart. Thanks to Doug Bradley Trucking, Inc. here in Kansas for sharing this video from one of their dash cameras. I’ve partnered with them to help show some of the real dangers their drivers are seeing out there. And a big thank you to all the professional truck drivers out there doing it right. We see you. We appreciate you,” said Trooper Gardner.
