A truck driver was run over by his own truck after being fatally rear ended by a second semi truck while standing outside of his rig.

The accident happened near the Long Beach Port in California on Wednesday morning, June 18th.

According to Long Beach Patch, the first truck driver was standing near the front of his rig after stopping in the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue and parking along the southern curb at about 6:40 a.m. As he stood near the engine compartment, he was rear ended by another tractor trailer, which pushed the first driver’s truck into him. The driver was then knocked over and run over by his own truck.

Life saving efforts were performed at the crash site, but the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending the notification of his family.

The second truck driver in the accident remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Speed, distracted driving, and impairment are not considered to be factors in the crash where the driver was fatally rear ended.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call detectives at 562-570-7355.
