A Texas sheriff helped to rescue a stuck dog that went missing from his trucker owner at a Houston truck stop.

According to a June 17 news release, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Animal Control Unit was called in to assist at a Pilot truck stop at Highway 290 and FM 1884 in Hempstead, Texas, on June 6.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found “a black dog trapped between the cab and fuel tank of an 18 wheeler.”

After freeing the stuck dog, the animal was scanned for a microchip and his owner was located.

His owner, a fellow truck driver, said that “Black” the dog went missing a few days earlier when he was broken down at a truck stop in Houston. The owner truck driver said that Black had been recently adopted from a shelter in Illinois.

“As it turns out, the driver of the 18 wheeler where Black was found had picked up a load in the same area of Houston where Black went missing, roughly 40 miles from the truck stop [where he was rescued]. It is believed that Black somehow climbed into the truck’s frame and remained stuck there throughout the drive to Hempstead. Fortunately, despite the ordeal, Black appeared unharmed and in good spirits, immediately seeking affection and water upon rescue.” WCSO said.
