The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is warning drivers to plan ahead for delays caused by the transport of a superload on I-80 next week.

Starting on Monday, June 30, crews will begin transporting a large transformer from Laramie to Medicine Bow.

The superload will leave a rail yard in Laramie on the morning of June 30, and it is expected to reach I-80 at the Snowy Range on-ramp at mile marker 311 by 10:30 a.m. The slow-moving superload will then move west along I-80 to the truck parking area at mile marker 307.

At 5 a.m. on July 1, the superload is expected to leave the truck parking area and travel for about two hours on I-80 to Arlington at mile marker 272. Then, the superload will take Wyoming Highway 13 to US Highway 30/287, reaching its destination in Medicine Bow.

“The transport dimensions are 17’3” tall, 26’ wide, 385’ long and weighs 1,484,000 lbs. Due to the size of the superload, both lanes of travel will be used. Not to cause damage to the interstate the transport will be traveling at 25-30 mph, dropping to 10 mph over bridges. Stoppages and travel delays should be expected,” WYDOT said.

WYDOT said that the transport is expected to return to the rail yard in Laramie the second week in July. Two other transformers are scheduled for transport over the summer.
