Law enforcement agencies throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, are gearing up for a weeklong enforcement effort targeting unsafe commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle drivers.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week is taking place July 13 — 19, 2025, throughout North America. Operation Safe Driver Week is held each year in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for the purpose of reducing deaths and injuries caused by crashes involving large trucks and buses.

During the weeklong effort, law enforcement agencies will increase patrol for the purposes of catching and citing commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers who engage in unsafe driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely or drunk or drugged driving.

The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2025 is reckless, careless, or dangerous driving. Reckless driving is defined as operating a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property. Careless/dangerous driving is defined as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.

This will be the first major CVSA enforcement effort since lack of English language proficiency for commercial vehicle drivers was returned to an out-of-service violation on June 25, 2025.

During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week campaign, officers pulled over 11,050 passenger and commercial vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, and a total of 2,439 warnings and 1,583 tickets/citations were issued to commercial motor vehicle drivers.

The CVSA’s Brake Safety Week inspection effort is scheduled for August 24 — 30, 2025.
