A truck driver is dead after colliding with a semi truck reentering I-70 in Utah after taking the wrong exit.
The fatal accident happened on Sunday, July 6th at around 8:15 p.m. on Interstate 70 in Crescent Junction, Utah near mile post 181.
According to 2 KUTV, a 2024 Freightliner was heading east on I-70 when the driver began to take an exit towards a scenic overlook. The truck driver then apparently changed his mind and drove into the striped gore area of the exit, where he attempted to reenter I-70.
As the truck driver cut across the gore area and attempted to get back onto the interstate, he was rear ended by an oncoming semi truck. The driver in the second truck died instantly.
The load of blueberries in the 2024 Freightliner was destroyed, but the driver and his passenger were not hurt. No other injuries have been reported.
Cleanup of the incident took approximately six hours, and traffic was diverted through the nearby rest area during the closure.
The Grand County Attorney’s Office is still working to determine what charges, if any, will be filed against the truck driver reentering I-70.
