The Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP) will be riding in commercial vehicles and buses as part of an upcoming traffic patrol targeting distracted driving and other dangerous driving behaviors.
Starting next week, the WSP will take part in a statewide “Trooper in a Truck” traffic enforcement effort.

During “Trooper in a Truck,” WSP troopers ride along with bus and semi truck drivers and use the height advantage offered by these vehicles to spot violations they might not otherwise see, including distracted driving, speeding, and seatbelt violations. When a violation is spotted, the trooper can radio to contact another trooper in a marked cruiser, who will then initiate a traffic stop and take appropriate enforcement action.

WSP is conducting the Trooper in a Truck patrol in partnership with the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association.
The WSP Trooper in a Truck effort will coincide with the larger Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Operation Safe Driver Week campaign taking place throughout North America July 13 — 19, 2025.
