The FMCSA has issued exemptions for truck drivers involved in Texas flood relief efforts for the next month.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued the emergency declaration on Monday, July 7th for floods that began in Central Texas on July 3rd.
The emergency order exempts truck drivers providing direct assistance to flood efforts from FMCSA regulations. These exemptions include HOS regulations, truck inspections, maintenance, and truck parking rules.
“The regulatory relief … applies regardless of the origin of the trip, so long as the carrier or driver is providing direct assistance to the State of Texas,” the declarations reads.
“Direct assistance does not include transportation related to long-term rehabilitation of damaged physical infrastructure after the initial threat to life and property has passed, nor does it include routine commercial deliveries, including mixed loads with a nominal quantity of qualifying emergency relief added to obtain the benefits of the Declaration.”
The emergency declaration for Texas flood relief efforts expires on August 4th.
