A commercial truck hauling a load of papaya approached the facility from Mexico seeking entry into the U.S.
The truck was referred for a secondary inspection using a canine unit and nonintrusive inspection equipment.
A subsequent physical search of the vehicle uncovered 384 packages of alleged methamphetamine with a combined weight of 2,571.69 pounds.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $23,647,288.
The drugs and commercial tractor trailer were seized by CBP.
Homeland Security Investigations launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
“This massive methamphetamine seizure reflects the dangerous reality of the drug threat our officers face every day and the effective utilization of experience and technology to zero-in and take down these loads,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
