A truck driver lost his life on Thursday in a crash caused by a load cover that came off another semi truck, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).
Troopers responded to the scene of a crash on Route 460 in Sussex County, Virginia, shortly before 3 p.m. on July 10, 2025.
The initial investigation indicates that truck driver Keith Michael Loback, 64, was driving a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer loaded with car parts westbound on Route 460 when a load cover or metal-framed tarp came off an eastbound semi truck.
The load cover struck the Freightliner’s windshield on the driver’s side.

“Upon impacting the windshield, the driver became unconscious. The Freightliner then traveled out of the westbound lanes, crossing over the eastbound lanes, and into the treeline, where the vehicle struck several trees,” police said.
Loback died from injuries sustained during the crash.
VSP located the eastbound truck driver on Thursday night, and a criminal investigation has been launched, WRIC reports.
