Driver should expect to see an increased law enforcement presence as the annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week campaign kicks off this week.
Operation Safe Driver Week is taking place July 13 — 19, 2025, throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
The purpose of the enforcement effort is to encourage safer driving behaviors through “education, traffic-enforcement strategies and driver interactions with law enforcement.”
During Operation Safe Driver Week, police will be on the lookout for dangerous commercial motor vehicle drivers and/or passenger vehicle drivers. These drivers will be pulled over and either warned or cited.
The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2025 is reckless, careless or dangerous driving. According to the CVSA, “any person who drives a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is driving recklessly. Careless/dangerous driving is defined as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.”
Also as part of Operation Safe Driver Week, warning and citation data will be gathered by law enforcement and submitted to the CVSA. Results will be released to the public in the fall of 2025.
During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week campaign, law enforcement officers in Canada and the U.S. pulled over 11,050 vehicles and issued 2,712 tickets/citations and 3,228 warnings to commercial motor vehicle and passenger vehicle drivers for various unsafe driving infractions.
