The Michigan State Patrol (MSP) seized more than $1.8 million worth of illegal drugs from a semi truck that was pulled over for bypassing a weigh station on Tuesday.
At approximately 9:15 on July 15, troopers with MSP’s Monroe Post Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVED) were manning the northbound I-75 weigh station in Frenchtown Township.

A 2018 Kenworth tractor pulling a flatbed trailer “bypassed the scales, failing to stop,” MSP said.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the troopers contacted the 26 year old Ontario, Canada, based truck driver.
The driver told police that he picked up a load in Ohio and was returning to Canada.
After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, troopers discovered four U-Haul cardboard boxes with a total of 70 vacuum sealed packages located in a flatbed storage compartment.

The substance in the packages tested positive for cocaine.
The truck driver denied any knowledge of the presence of drugs.
The truck driver was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail on a charge of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, over 1000 grams.
MPS estimated the maximum street value of the cocaine at approximately $1,820,000.
Other agencies assisting in the drug seizure include the Monroe City Police Department K-9 unit, and the Monroe Area Narcotics Team and Investigative Services (M.A.N.T.I.S.).
