A towing company in Kansas City was caught illegally towing a car just about a month after receiving a $7M judgement against them.
A mechanic recently stopped a tow truck driver working for Haney’s Trucking and Tow as he loaded up a classic car from the shop lot. The mechanic confronted the tow truck driver on video, stating that the driver did not have the proper documentation to take the car.
In Missouri, law requires tow truck drivers to obtain a signed form from the property owner before they can tow a car parked on private property. In the video, the tow truck driver claims to be unaware of this legal requirement, and says he is just following orders from his boss.
“We complained until they [Haney’s Trucking and Tow] brought it back,” the owner of the shop told Fox 4 Kansas City.
Haney’s Trucking and Tow received a $7M judgement against them earlier this summer after illegally towing and impounding a food truck for 699 days. During that time, the food truck was stripped of equipment and left to fall into disrepair. Predatory towing remains an ongoing problem in Missouri and other states throughout the United States.
