A truck hauling race cars caught fire in Colona, Illinois, over the weekend.

At 6:12 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, the Colona Fire Department (CFD) responded to a reported “road freight vehicle fire” on I-74 at mile marker 13 in Colona.

CFD said that the trailer had an active fire in the right rear tire area, which was starting to extend towards the cargo area.

The truck was hauling IndyCar Series race cars, officials said.

The vehicle fire was knocked down to prevent additional damage and loss.

Hazmat units responded to the scene to ensure that on-board fuel containers were not damaged in the fire.

No injuries were reported.

CFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
