A coalition of eighteen states will come together this week for a campaign to stop vehicles hitting low-clearance bridges.

From Tuesday, July 22, 2025, through Saturday, July 26, 2025, eighteen member states of the Eastern Transportation Coalition will take part in a “Check Your Height, Know It’s Right” educational campaign intended to curb bridge strikes.

The campaign reminds drivers to know the height of their vehicles and to comply with posted bridge clearance signs. Drivers are also encouraged to pay attention to physical signs, and not just follow navigational apps.

The campaign will be targeting “all types of drivers, including commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders, as well as those driving leased or rented box trucks – such as delivery vans and moving trucks – and recreational vehicles,” the West Virginia Department of Transportation said.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet provided the following tips to help drivers avoid bridge strikes:

  • Measure vehicle, check door decal or owner’s manual for max height before traveling
  • If hauling equipment or livestock, check trailer and load height
  • Don’t rely on GPS; heed height warning signs before bridges and overpasses
  • Ensure dump truck beds are lowered, or tall equipment is stowed properly before entering highway
