Interstate 95 was shut down for an extended period of time on Wednesday after a chain reaction crash site ignited as crews worked to conduct road repairs.
The crash happened at about 4:20 a.m. on I-95 south at mile marker 235 near Oak Hill in Volusia County, Florida.
According to News 6, a semi truck was heading south on I-95 when it veered into the center lane of the interstate and struck a small UHaul towing a trailer loaded with a 2008 Toyota RAV4. The semi truck and GMC hauling a trailer and car all veered off of the roadway, where the tractor trailer overturned. The semi truck’s load of plastic pipes then spilled all over the roadway and was struck by an oncoming 2003 Nissan 350Z.

The truck driver was transported to a hospital with non life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. Both directions of I-95 were closed due to the widespread chain reaction crash site. All southbound lanes remained closed until after 11:30 a.m. due to a fire that ignited at the crash site as crews worked to repair a roadway, reported WFTV.
Further details on the exact cause of the crash, or the condition of the truck driver, have not been released.
