A truck driver filmed himself confronting the driver involved in a recent pile up crash that killed five in Austin earlier this year.
In the video, the filming truck driver apparently shows a close up of the truck after it crashed into a line of traffic at high speeds on Interstate 35 in Austin on the evening of March 13th.
The filming truck driver shows a close up of the damage done to the semi truck involved in the wreck before finding and confronting the driver, 37-year-old Solomun Weldekeal Araya.
“What happened?!” the filming driver asks Araya. Araya then gives a garbled answer before the filming driver says “the traffic was there… I’m a truck driver myself… you shoulda been…”
“You know there’s two people dead over there?” the filming driver continues. “And possibly two more?! They’re dead.”
“Dead?!” Araya says, using a hand gesture to make sure he understands what the filming driver is saying.
The two then start walking, until Araya indicates that he will either call someone, or is receiving a call.
“Who you calling?!” the filming driver says. “They’re fixin’ to lock your a** up!”
Araya appears confused and points at himself as if to say “lock me up?”
“Yeah they’re gonna lock you up.. That’s manslaughter,” the filming driver says.
Araya was initially charged with five counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault. Since the wreck, questions surrounding whether or not he was actually intoxicated have led to Araya having his bond reduced from $1.2 million to $7,000
